President’s Message

The December fundraisers were very successful thanks to all those who assisted and participated. The Tea and Silent Auction showed a profit of $2270.83 and the Poinsettia Sale raised $1651.04. We encourage your support of our Caladium Bulb Sale – Final date Feb 9 (Candy Strand, 514-0515) and the upcoming Garage Sale (see article below).

Remember to make your reservations for

* Magnolia Circle’s Valentine Luncheon Feb. 11th Reservations to Sandy Wadsworth (386-8275) by Feb. 5th.

* Spring General Membership Meeting and Luncheon by Feb. 24th (see flyer ad) The Spring Luncheon will be a fun event for members. The Circle having the most members attending will win a dessert for their April or May meeting. Each Circle is asked to bring a centerpiece to the Spring Luncheon to be given as a door prize.

Prior to a Circle meeting at the Garden Center, the Circle contact person, must arrange (with the Resident Manager, Mike Herrin) to pick up a key ahead of time or agree upon a location for the key to be left so you can retrieve it. Then when your meeting is over, you lock the doors and drop the key in the mail slot by the front door. Please have one person designated to get a key so Mike is not receiving calls from several members regarding one meeting.

We still do not have a place to store Garage Sale items at the Garden Center. The Garage sale items must be delivered on Mar 12 , 9am to 3pm or Mar 13, 9-11am.

Please consider participating and attending the Spring Flower Show, April 24-25, and the Garden Bazaar, April 25th, at the Garden Center

Daffodil Show

The Florida Daffodil Society (FDS) would like to showcase floral arrangements containing daffodils at its 2009 Flower Show. The 2009 FDS Flower Show will take place at Tallahassee Nurseries, in the greenhouse, 2911 Thomasville Road. This is not a judged flower show.

The FDS is looking for volunteers willing to create the arrangements on Saturday morning, February 28th, starting at 8:30am and finishing by 10am, using daffodils provided by Society members. Those willing to volunteer will provide containers and other plant material. The arrangements remain on display until Sunday, March 1st at 5pm. At that time, floral arrangers may pick up their arrangements. Please contact Tracy Allen at 386-1588 if you would like to volunteer to create an arrangement (or two!) for the show.”

The FDS Flower Show is free and open to the public on Saturday, February 28th and Sunday, March 1st, from 10am until 5pm both days.

Tree Count Deadline: March 4

The Tree Planting Record page is in the packet that every chairman received at the beginning of the year and they can fill this out at their circle meeting and drop it in the mail to Donna Frinks at 2902 Brandemere Dr., 32312 or email her the numbers at dfrinks@yahoo.com

> You may count the trees planted by landowners in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), the trees planted on private lands, not corporate lands, if they have been planted for conservation purposes.
> You may count the trees members separated, bagged, tied, and gave away for an Earth Day project? Anything to promote planting trees!!

Magnolia Circle reported 63,031 trees planted this year! One member planted 63,000 slash pines at a tree farm. This should bump up our number this year considerably!
