I had a great time at the TGC Fun with Flowers this week and I was really pleased with the arrangement I brought home. I’ve received lots of compliments, but the best one was “Where did you get this?”

New TGC Website!

The Tallahassee Garden Club (TGC) has launched a new, beautifully-designed website. The new website features information on joining the club, renting the facility, and participating in TGC events. New Tomato Plants from Suckers: New Method

Hey everybody! Check out this very interesting way to quickly get new tomato plants from your mature tomatoes. Instead of just pinching off the suckers and rooting them you let them make roots while attached to the mother plant. Very cool idea.

Mini-Water Feature Workshop

Thanks to everyone who attended last week’s water feature workshop. We had a great time, made a big mess, and learned a lot. I’m posting pictures of two of the finished projects here. The first one, the metal pitcher, was completed by Peggy. The second includes a planter with a water feature inserted inside it. No Longer Afraid

I was always intimidated by this Century Plant. It’s stayed in a pot for the past five years because I never really knew what to do with it. If I plant it in the yard, will a child brush past it and suffer a gaping wound that sends them to the hospital? Or worse, will the neighbors, on the late night trek home, suffer excruciating impalement and be found the next morning with a pained expression frozen on their faces?

No longer! Thanks to my dear friends in the Wisteria Circle, I can now face this frightening Agave with courage and determination. Armed with a generous supply of tiny googly eyes, I’m fighting back. Heck, I might even convince the kids to let me plant it in the playground. Thanks ladies. Now, does anyone know where I can find a Cholla Cactus?

Compost Bin and Rain Barrel Sale

This Saturday (April 24th), compost bins and rain barrels will be on sale for $50.00 each at the Tallahassee Mall parking lot. The sale runs from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm, but you might want to get there early as the line tends to get long.

BEFORE THE DIGGING, THEY WILL BE GIVING A BASIC WORKSHOP

Helena Sadvary, John Maiers, and Ed Schroeder present various aspects of starting a spring garden for the first time gardener. Topics include location, types of gardening, irrigation, compost, soil, what to plant when, seeds vs seedlings, advantages, opportunities to get involved, and much more! They will be available during and after the presentation to answer questions. All three presenters are Master Gardeners with a special interest in vegetable and herb gardening.

Build A Birdhouse with your Sweetheart

Wisteria Circle is hands-down the coolest in the Garden Club. Last night’s “Build A Birdhouse with your Sweetheart” was one of our best meetings ever. It was great to meet everyone’s significant others and sons. I took photos with my phone, so they’re a bit grainy, but it sure shows how much fun us Wisteria girls know how to have.

Thanks a bunch to our hosts Glenda and Paul Erickson. We’re also eternally grateful to Leisa Pichard and Keith McCraw for getting all the materials ready for the build.
